NURTURING YOUNG MINDS.
ElmTree Clinic… a mental health clinic for infants and preschool children and their families. Our focus is to understand young children’s strengths and challenges in the context of their families and the community around them. We partner with parents, other health care providers and community professionals to collaboratively create intervention plans for children. We use current research about brain development to guide our practice.
Getting messy to help decrease tactile defensiveness and increase discrimination!
Vestibular input (movement involving gravity) helps with regulation, coordination and motor planning.
Time alone in a quiet cozy space is just what some of us need to recharge!
We go for the "gleam" in your child's eye to get best attention and engagement!
Whole body tactile play supports development of your child's sensory system!
When your child is sitting to play or eat you want them in a 'supportive seating system'! This is when their hips, knees and ankles are all at 90 degrees (feet rest flat on the floor) allowing your child to feel stable so they can use their hands more functionally. Also ensure the table height is just below the elbow.
Just right fine motor challenge! Choosing the correct size of toys can help develop grasp.
